A mokume gane ring is created using a special metalworking technique that originated in Japan. The words “mokume gane” are translated from Japanese to “wood-grain” in English. 

Mokume gane is done by layering thin sheets of metal on top of each other. It can be done with different types of metals and metal colours. The layers are bound together and melted to be shaped into a ring. 

The resulting look is similar to the wood grain of a tree. The metals are mixed in different layers and patterns, each one unique to each ring. No mokume gane ring comes out the same.
