Starting young

Since I was a small child I have always had a passion for art. This love for art became more honed towards design after studying for my general Art & Design diploma & then Product Design degree at University. Which ever project I was working on at college & uni I always ended up creating things on a tiny scale. So much so that a tutor at college said I should consider jewellery design way before I had even considered it as a career!

Life in The Lanes

After university I moved to Brighton. There, I got a job in an antique jewellery shop in The Lanes in Brighton. At this stage it was really to make ends meet but little did I know that this trade I would grow to love also had amazing opportunities in the world of design. I soon fell in love with the amazing gemstones & precious metals. I even began to take on bespoke jewellery commissions at a shop & in an area, where this was quite unusual. After working at the antique jewellery store for around 5 years I worked for another jeweller (also in The Lanes in Brighton). Then, one day, my original employer offered me the chance to start my own business and take on the lease of one of his shops. The thought of taking all of my recently acquired jewellery knowledge and linking it with my passion for design was something I had now dreamed of for a few years. I took him up on his offer of first refusal on his shop and RING jewellers was born in 2005!

I now consider myself very lucky. I love my work because every day is different! I enjoy sorting through rare and beautiful gemstones like a kid in a sweet shop, and liaising with my team of talented designers, goldsmiths and diamonds setters, watching customers dreams become reality. I am always meeting new and interesting people in the shop and designing jewellery that often has fascinating story behind it. I’m lucky enough to get amazing online reviews from my customers, and it means the world to me that they are happy with the jewellery we have designed and made for them.

With RING jewellers now in its eleventh year, time has flown for me. I’ve designed jewellery for famous actors, comedians and some of the world’s best known footballers. I sometimes think back to my foundation Art & Design course when a tutor once said to me, “Even when we give you a huge piece of paper to work on you end up sketching a tiny picture in the corner! Have you ever considered jewellery design?”. At the time I had not, I had no idea what was in store! Fingers crossed the next eleven years and beyond are as enjoyable!
