Marquise diamonds are known for their ability to appear larger than other diamond shapes of the same carat weight, The elongated shape gives the illusion of being bigger and is also said to lengthen the fingers. 

The open shoulders have a small opening, creating two open triangles on either side of the marquise diamond. This allows viewers to see the size of the centre diamond and draw more attention to it.
